Seeing Eye Dog That Couldn’t See

Graham’s seeing eye dog came into his life from British Academy of Guide Dogs.

Edward was a seeing eye dog that opened a new world for owner Graham who had injured his eyes in separate accidents. He had lost his right eye completely in a car crash then, years later the left eye was hurt in another accident and weakened by glaucoma.

Many years later Edward the seeing eye dog, was stricken with glaucoma and went blind himself. A dog who had loaned his eyes to another for much of his life had lost his site completely due to the same disease that impaired his master.

This English Retriever was already popular but after losing his sight, there came an outpouring of support. People clamored to meet him. Edward loved the attention and would lay on one shoulder, bottom sticking up and bark to his fans.

Stardom hasn’t ruined this blind dog and to Graham his master he’s a constant companion. That love between animal and master is especially powerful. Graham says, “it’s more than man relying on dog, it’s the other way around.”

Connection between human and dog is an intimate and intuitive bond.

Thank you, Jennifer S Holland  for this beautiful story.

Being on LinkedIn is new to me and I’m a bit clumsy, like leaving my “notify your network” button on while I built my profile, but I’m glad to have stumbled in here. In the past I was content with just owning the social networking stocks, however my lesson this week is that reconnecting is the best “total return” because true yield comes in human terms.

Life’s lessons happen when we least expect them but we must remain open in spite of how we feel. When I was informed of the untimely death of my friend, Dr. Mary Carroll I was angry. The sad news in due course resurrected a wonderful memory of friendships forged around Mary and our work in Rotary…I only wished I had told her so one more time.

Things move so quickly these days, we tend to forget life and its acquaintances can come to an end at any time. Mary’s passing reminded me that we all have a special place in each other’s life that should be consistently honored and acknowledged.

LinkedIn was my answer from Mary. Connecting to familiar faces this week reminds me of so many beneficial endeavors once had and springs hope that similar benefits become broader and create less economic disparity not only in our community but for the next generations of this great country.

Teachings of Buddhism is that unhappiness is caused by desire and avoidance. Desire for things we like and avoidance of the things we don’t like. Suffering is a lack of acceptance of how things are, so we run away from things we don’t like, and we chase the things we like. This is the wheel of desire suffering in Buddhism.

Pain is unavoidable but suffering is optional. Pain will happen and there is going to be loss and unpleasant situations in life. How you choose to experience them is where suffering will happen.

When a shooting star happens you become absorbed in it and didn’t think about anything else. For those 2 to 3 seconds as the star shoots across the sky that is all you think about and all you experienced. When it is all over, the essence of the experience was transitory. Pain can be short-lived and suffering optional.

Until now, all so called “get rich experts” tout their own style of one-size-fits-all techniques. Their opinions are based on a single idea created through a personal filter, the very subjectivity of which decreases the odds of success for others. The truth is, no single formula for obtaining financial prosperity works. The only “expert” capable of determining how to create wealth is the person themselves and that makes options for succeeding infinite.

In Reawakening an American Dream, hundreds of personalities were examined. The conclusion: all people share external traits but what separates success and failure is an applied divine difference that link behaviors on an individual basis. It illuminates behavioral thinking that paves a way to wealth, by unlocking personal power permitting individual outcomes to naturally unfold–retooling the mind for individual best use. Actual success techniques were woven into the stories, making change virtually effortless, in much the same way children learn new behaviors because they are cognitively predisposed. Within Reawakening an American Dream, each story is enlightening and offers instruction that can open doors to readers’ own riches.

Kevin Palmer says Get Terminated to get to the next level.

To achieve wealth, and the financial freedom that goes with it, all you need to do is change how you think. A recent SMA Institute study revealed, it’s not hard to change neuropathways in the brain and move into top percentiles of income or wealth. Most of us tend to default to things we were taught as children, like being good students, or ideal employees. But in order to thrive you must first unlearn some habits. If you’d rather not break rules or make waves at work, stop reading—but if you want to get rich, get fired!

As a young news reporter in Baltimore, Oprah Winfrey’s boss said she, was a bad fit and look what happened to her. Lots of rich people got fired. Mark Cuban, Thomas Edison, Walt Disney, my old neighbor Jerry Seinfeld. Even Abraham Lincoln was reduced to the military rank of private before he rose to President of the United States. While training stock brokers at white shoe Wall Street firm, I needed to fire someone who consistently failed my expectations. He left and made millions as a computer dating entrepreneur.

In society order must be maintained and using fear bases rules, like with Covid19, keeps the masses controlled, paving the way for those at the top to make the most money. As far back as 1200 BC Egyptian pharaohs first agreed to protect farmers and then made them follow their rules while they collected unimaginable treasures. In England, during the Peteloo Massacre of 1819, people protested against such rule and were attacked by their own militia. Eighteen people were killed.

Once you give up your power, you may not get it back. Keep in mind there’s a long list of those who opposed the status quo, like Elon Musk, J.K. Rowling or Bill Gates. Disruptors get rich and don’t buy into mass think. Licenses are granted by bureaucrats who monitor and threaten you with compliance but no one needs a license or a regulators’ approval to make a lot of money! Do what works (ethically) for you! Serving agendas of companies, institutions and governments will only keep you oppressed.

Resist being ruled and it will positively affect neuropathways in the brain to help you let go of misconception like, your boss knows better. Remember Doghouse Reilly. “I was fired for insubordination. I seem to rate pretty high on that…” If you want to make millions defy when others repress your ideas and express what you do best. Unlearn old habits and replace them with personal empowerment to launch transformational change that will keep you focused and rich.

Most of us recall, from fourth grade, that our Pilgrim Fathers were so grateful for having safely reached their destination in 1620, they gave thanks with a noble feast. Today, we reenact that event every fourth Thursday of November, which to some is also known as the most dysfunctional family day of the year.

During this horrific, ‘er I mean, historic year of 2020, you may be traveling down the hall to the kitchen, rather than across the country but will likely navigate to a table with turkey, pies and all the dressings. Traffic slowdowns or hallway accidents aside, you will do better than the Pilgrims, who ended up nowhere near their desired destination.

Historical records show the Mayflower was destined for what is known today, as Virginia. Old sea charts show, even if it landed where plotted, their Thanksgiving dinner would have been near Staten Island’s Bayonne Bridge, which could have seriously altered history. Imagine watching Martin Scorsese’s, “Pilgrims of Wall Street” staring ye’old Leonardo DiCaprio.

Butterfly effect aside, Mayflower passages were not all stodgy prudes. Some weren’t even Pilgrims. Seemingly, a portion of passengers agreed to rules made by the “Virginia Company”, (the guys bankrolling the deal, thus hoped-for arrival location), just to hitch a free ride. All having something to do with a Royal Charter, but more on business schemes next year.

Like now, Reawakening an America Dream, (name of my latest book btw), was on everyone’s mind, especially since a population surge in England was causing great poverty. Plus, with no Charles Schwab, King Charles, like his sons, I & II, confiscated people’s gold to pay their own bills—apparently par for any political age.

So when the, all are welcome recruiting sign went up, it was an even bet for wannabe immigrants. A good idea for Pilgrims Fathers too, until they all hit shore. I failed to mention, there was beer on onboard, (another story for next year). From experience, I know running out of beer is a damn good reason to drop anchor, but putting a party to shore, party being functional word, had its risks.

It seemed during the long voyage, the non-pilgrims turned out to be quite a rowdy bunch and when the new world looked nothing like merry old England, their commitment to the “Virginia Company”, it’s hoped-for landing location and King Charlie, went right out the window, I mean porthole.

Enter Miles Standish, who was “the law” in mercenary clothing, hired to keep order. A guy who likely made your fourth-grade teacher, “Quaker” in her boots as she taught his name and the details of one “Mayflower Compact”.

No, “Mayflower Compact” was not a Thanksgiving recipe! It was an ad hock police power affecting rights of individuals that was in conflict with personal liberty. It basically said, welcome to the New World. Once ashore, we can and will limit your freedoms—”meet the new boss, same as the old boss”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHhrZgojY1Q

Free or not, adventures, tradesmen, and Pilgrims alike went ashore shooting, looting and scaring Native Americans and their kids. After nearly five weeks, bored and hungry, they moved on to the famous Plymouth Rock, still nowhere near Virginia as originally planned, where they settled in for the winter.

All of them might have died near that granite boulder on which they stepped, if not for an “Indian”, named Squanto, who mysteriously spoke English and negotiated an Indian soup kitchen of sorts, for those unfortunate starving settlers. Today we celebrate that event, but not Squanto, on a day called Thanksgiving.

This year, remain open and accepting of others in thoughts or deeds and have a Happy and Blessed Day.
