I’ve lived on golf courses a long time—ever since I left the beach.
Even played golf for a while but gave it up for archaeology. More accurately, gave it up to be a dig bum, where I’d perspire and PhD Archaeologist would dust off what I uncovered. Either way it was more fun than golf!
In my view golf could be enhanced by setting wild animals loose on the course that make the challenge of driving your shot, much more exciting. Cart speed would naturally need to be enhanced as well, to avoid being caught and eaten as prey.
The other thing that makes golf so expected, is apparel. Can’t put my finger on it but all golf guys look alike, right down to the sun glasses positioned on the cap brim. At the office, casual Fridays were such a letdown because it turned into golf attire day.
It made me feel like such a Public Radio dork in pleated khaki pants. I eventually defaulted back to my Brooks Brothers suit from the oldest men’s clothier in Manhattan, where my grandpa’s dad shopped in 1818. Then on weekends I’d let loose and wear faded jeans with a “hang the rich tee-shirt”.
Most of my friends who play golf are great guys but there is always an occasional, wana be rich so I’ll play golf guy. They are the ones who, constantly use the “F” word every time they complete a swing. Or think it’s manly to talk about women like they’re targets. The same guys, who play in a Member Guest that…
